Perfect Color Pallettes
- Hue – Refers to the Dominant Color Family of the specific color we are looking at. White, Black and Grey are never referred to Hue or Color.
- Tint – Hue or mixture of pure colors with only white added (or moving closer to White)
- Tone – Hue or mixture of pure color with only Gray added (or moving closer to Gray)
- Shade- Hue or mixture of pure color with only Black added (or moving closer to Black)
- Temperature – Our perception of color as being either warm or cool
- Warm – Can be achieved by adding Yellow or Red Tones in a Hue
- Reminds us of Heat and Sunshine
- Known as “Active Colors”
- Cool – Can be achieved by adding Blue or Green
- Reminds us of Ice, Snow, & Water
- Known as “Passive Colors”
- Warm – Can be achieved by adding Yellow or Red Tones in a Hue

- Subtractive mixing of light -> All Color mixed = Black
- Used for Printing
- RGB – Red, Green, Blue
- Additive mixing of light -> turn on All colors = Pure White; turn off All Colors = Black
- Used for Digital Screens
- HSB – Hue, Saturation, Brightness
- How people actually see color and how our brain’s work
- Hue is a radio 360 scale of all colors
- Saturation is how Dull or Rich the Color
- Brightness is whether the color is closer to white or close to black on the scale
